A coalition of Georgian non-governmental organizations
leaded by Partnership for Social Initiatives (PSI) has a honor to be
selected through competitive process for the implementation of the Mercy
Corps funded project “Assist Community Input into the Poverty Reduction
and Economic Growth Program (PREGP) in Georgia”.
Mercy Corps and
Care are implementing the Georgia Community Mobilization Initiative
(GCMI) Program, funded by the USAID.
The objective of Mercy Corps and CARE’s work is to enhance
the ability of vulnerable communities to mobilize and address
community-based needs. The Social Policy Initiative Group (SPIG) is a part
of the GCMI Program and is charge of promoting social development in a
collaborative and strategic way with government and civil society
representatives.
The Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth Program (PREGP)
in Georgia is critically important for constituency groups associated with
the Georgian Community Mobilization Initiative. It is vital, therefore,
that community leaders have an opportunity to express their views on the
strategies and plans which are being developed for the PREGP.
The Secretariat of the Governmental Commission for the
Elaboration of the PREGP initiated a public participation process in 2001
after the Interim Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper had been issued. The
Secretariat strives for increasing effectiveness of community inputs into
the PREGP preparation and institutionalizing public participation in the
PREGP implementation.
The coalition is supposed to assist SPIG to develop special
methodology for community meetings on PREGP, to conduct community meetings
and to elaborate and provide recommendations to the Secretariat.
We hope that the project will contribute to the stronger
country ownership of the PREGP and to the gain of experience on future
institutionalization of public participation in the PREGP.
We would appreciate your comments and suggestions regarding
the project. Please not hesitate to contact us directly.
Sincerely,

Tina Danelia
Project Coordinator
